This photoshoot was challenging and an outstanding one for myself. In the beginning of 2015 Men´s Health Germanys editorial staff asked me if I´m up to do a lightpainting photoshoot about triathlon - better to say a shooting with the ironman champion Sebastian Kienle - and I said yes.

 

A few weeks later we met in a Studio in Stuttgart and only had a single day for getting all needed pictures in a completly dark setup. Now the difficulties upfront were how to work out the three different disciplines of triathlon: biking, running and swimming, so I started with pre-tests in my studio to find the best choice of "lighting weapons". It turned out that actually the swimming discipline was the most challenging one as we wouldn´t have a pool in the studio.

Packed with a box full of special gadgets like custom made plexiglas-blades, various fibreglas-brushes, a pixelstick, led-torches and color-foils, I arrived in the studio early in the morning to meet the champ in person and to go threw the single shots together with the editorial staff crew and my assistant.

 

The shooting went smooth and it didn´t take more than 10 pictures per discipline to get things going. So take a look at the results and maybe get inspired:
